Location: Tarrant County, TX
This past weekend, a firearm was removed from my property by an estranged in-law while neither my wife or I was at home and allegedly surrendered into the local police department. The in-law did not have my permission to be on the property nor access the firearm. He does have a key to the house. They claim they surrendered it to the police department, but it is not at the station where I am a resident, still waiting to hear back from neighboring city.
What kind of legal recourse could I have against my in-law?
What potential criminal charges could they face?
Edited to add: Gun is legally registered to me and I am lawfully allowed to possess it.
