Traffic stop and having a first-time citation of wrong plates

Location: San Antonio, Texas - I was in the process of selling cars under my uncle’s business, and the vehicle in question was under that business. At the time, I didn’t have enough money to both invest into the car and pay for insurance and registration.

Because of that, I made the decision to place license plates that were originally assigned to my previous vehicle onto this car. I believed this would be acceptable since the plates were registered to me and I was not trying to conceal my identity.

I was later pulled over and cited for:

  • No insurance
  • No registration
  • Display of the wrong license plates

Within the same week of the traffic stop, I corrected all issues:

  • I obtained valid insurance
  • I registered the vehicle and received temporary tags
  • I completed the sale of the vehicle

I have documentation showing these corrections, and the title has since been transferred to the buyer.

My intention was never to evade law enforcement or commit fraud, but rather to manage my situation at the time. I understand now that my actions were not compliant with the law, and I took immediate steps to correct them.

I want to understand ways to get over this or how I can make this easier, financially and on my record. This is the first time I've gotten pulled over with the wrong plates.
