My dad died at the end of March. He was a renter on a lease that ends in September.
Rental agency was notified 30 march by email, but we didn't have any documentation. They were notified by police l, as they had to break down the door.
The apartment will be empty at the end of April.
I understand there is the 60 day notice to vacate and here is where the issues are
I believe the 60 days started on 30 march, as they were made aware that day, even though we weren't able to being them any paperwork or death certificate until yesterday.
They want me to pay for may and June (even though we have already paid for April - so we will essentially be paying for 4 months (April, May, June and lost security deposit) after his death.
I wonder if there is any way we can get out of these 60 days, or how I can make the 60 days at least start on March 30.
If I can't get out of the 60 days, I want to make damn sure that landlord doesn't come in and start repair/refurbishment on my dime.
