Hello. A friend of mine who is a residential building contractor (mostly renovation of homes that are currently being lived in) hired a registered sex offender.
I’ll spare you all the details, but the offender was caught in a police sting operation online trying to solicit sex from a minor.
I asked my friend if he has to inform his customers that he is sending a registered sex offender onto their property and into their homes, and that is something that he did not even consider when hiring the person.
**Now, I’m not looking for everyone’s opinion on sex offenders. I was shocked by my friend’s decision to hire the man, but his thinking is that the guy served his time and has paid his debt to society.
So, here’s my question: is a business owner required to inform a customer that a registered sex offender will be entering their property?
Location: the state of Virginia.
