I am trying to leave a relationship with a volatile individual. My concern is purchasing a home and having my name be searchable in public records. What’s the best way for me to do this via a trust or any way to not have my name attached to the address?
I’ll be using a conventional loan and have enough in a private account for down payment, closing etc. Luckily I can financially do this, just have to be careful not to alter my spending to set off suspicion.
My counselor has seen recordings and photos, and believes I should pursue an order of protection. If I do that it’ll be extremely bad and it doesn’t actually ensure my safety. If anything I’d pursue this once I’m physically out. While there has not been anything “too” physical, he has a pattern of violent behavior when triggered. He is an alcoholic and has been going through a prolonged period of increasingly concerning mental health challenges (extreme paranoia, hearing voices, etc).
Any other advice on things I should do to legally protect myself? I plan to take video of the home/contents as I pack and before I load moving truck + after to show I only took my belongings. I’m calling some local DV resources tomorrow too.
