I reached out to a local pest control company about spraying my property. After receiving prices, I never confirmed and set an appointment.
3 weeks later, a employee was sent to my house (I did originally provide my address) to try to catch me in person to spray.
The employee was video’d on my doorbell camera. He knocked, rang my doorbell and instantly turned my doorknob to see if the door would open. All within 20 seconds. He knocked for 2 1/2 minutes. Went to his truck. Returned and entered a random code on my key lock. Which unlocked. He walked into my house and left the sprayer outside.
I am unaware at how long he was in my house. When I saved the videos from Google, it did not save time stamps. My neighbors videos got him pulling in at 5:05pm and leaving at 5:20pm.
When he was walking out, he was on the phone with the owner. Apologizing for going in. Saying that he was a “tech genius” for guessing the code. He went in on impulse. And that my code was 1234 and to put it in my chart. (It is NOT my code! That’s the manufacturer code that didn’t erase!!!)
I have a total of 5 1/2 minutes of doorbell camera footage. But I don’t know what he was doing for the other 10 minutes.
I instantly contacted the company. Who tried to downplay it and made it into a joke. After providing videos, their tone changed and the employee was fired. Company owner also told me their employee was “high” after watching the videos.
They were very apologetic. Communicated with me and then out of nowhere, I was blocked on everything with no way to contact them.
I have since started having nightmares (didn’t happen before), I catch myself looking out windows while walking past them expecting to see him. I’ve installed an alarm system, cameras and new locks. Mainly because he got fired due to me turning him in and knows where I live but also because a man came into my home, without having permission. As a single mom, it’s messed with me mentally more than I ever expected.
I am not wanting to sue for outrageous things. But would I be crazy to file a lawsuit asking for that company to reimburse me for all expenses I’ve had to pay for these things?
I feel like I’m out of money due to their employee’s wrongdoing.
I have never had to do anything like this before. So I don’t even know where to start. Any advice on where to start or what to do? A police report was filed the day after it happened.
