Mom's "final wishes" to a lawyer

Location: Florida, Connecticut

My mother passed away at her home in Florida. She had a will created by a Florida bar certified lawyer. She told my cousin, a Connecticut certified lawyer, her "final wishes" when he recently visited her. She was in mental decline at the time. The wishs involved her funeral, to occur in Connecticut. I don't believe she formally hired him. I consider him trustworthy. Her wishes involve an elaborate ceremony, celebration, with lots in attendance.

My sibling and I want a private, immediate family only, ceremony. We want a closure befitting of an abuser, which our mother was, despite there being no legal documentation. Saving money from her funeral and ceremony to recoup via her estate's dispersal is not of any interest to us. My sibling, cousin, and I are not financially motivated.

Are "final wishes" legally binding? Does the state part matter? What other aspects should I ask about or know before speaking with my cousin?
