So, I'm curious if my supervisor broke a law I don't know about, or it was a full foot in mouth situation.
In late 2024, my daughter died. She was just over a week and it was kidney failure ultimately due to her being premature. Everyone at my work locally knows. I've been there for over a decade and it's the only time I've taken off.
The RVP and a bunch of corporate people came in. He asked me point blank while going over some financial information if I had kids after I stated our ranking could be better. I said no. He said "You'd be a terrible mother." And laughed. It took me so off guard and I almost ugly cried in front of everyone and informed him my daughter was gone.
There was some fumbling there, I never accepted his apology, informed him 1 in 4 women lose a child and that's inappropriate. Then the visit continued. Since then, I have been told I'm getting a raise, stepped up into a slightly better position with its own separate pay, and been visited by others. They have made comments about me having leeway, thanked me for not walking out and asked if I was going after his job.
While this stung and was highly inappropriate, I'm not sure what the bottom line is. Is this a legal issue, or just an HR issue? I've never seen my company behave the way they are currently so I'm curious as to what the full extent
