I work at a chain grocery store in a small town. Today I had an encounter with a customer that ended in her threatening to bring me and my supervisor to court. It is probably just an empty threat as we did not do anything illegal or intentionally harmful, but I'd still like to make sure that I am safe from being sued.
I was checking out a teenage girl who was on the phone with her mother. She asked if she could pay without the physical card by entering in the number. I said no because I had worked at this place for three years and never done anything of the sort.
The mother then yells through the phone speaker that she has done this at our store before and that I am "lying" to her. I tell them to wait a minute for me to call my supervisor to see if it's something I missed, but he says the same thing.
Eventually the mother sends money to her daughter's card to pay for the groceries. We apologize for the inconvenience and she leaves the store.
Immediately after she leaves I get a call from the mother and she asks me for the full names of me and my supervisor. I give them to her and she tells me she'll be seeing me in court and ends the call.
Do I have anything to be worried about here?
