A year and a half ago I signed with my father to be owners of a condo that me and my friend have been living in since then. My roommate and I signed a lease so rules would be set in place and my friend couldn't be suddenly evicted (My dad doesn't particularly like this friend after he learned they didn't follow the same politics). Now it is a little more than a month away from the lease ending and my dad wants to sell the condo despite my disagreement. Yesterday, I received a letter from him stating there would be no renewal of the lease. What confuses me is the second paragraph of the letter:
"Please take further notice that you are required to surrender the premises to (my dad's name) upon the termination date. Please return the premises in the same condition as you found it upon move-in, normal wear-and-tear excepted. Furthermore, you are required to return all keys upon vacating the premises. Failure to vacate the premises on or before the termination date will result in legal proceedings against you to recover possession of said premises."
I am a co owner just like him on the title to the condo, so can he actually force me to leave? Furthermore, would he be able to sell the condo without my signature or permission? We verbally agreed a few months ago that the condo would be kept if my friend and I could fully cover the costs (My dad was assisting with paying a small percent of the mortgage and the monthly HOA bill as stated by the original lease contract). A part of me feels this is a power move to force me back home with him, he is and was a very controlling father, so I am checking here to see if I can actually push back and keep living at this condo.
