To make a long story short, I retained a criminal defense attorney a few months back. I met him on a Saturday at a restaurant, paid for his breakfast, and then gave him a retainer. He told me I would have to terminate my current legal counsel because he doesn’t like to step on anyone’s toes, which I thought was odd because I thought that was a conflict of interest. But I went ahead and did it. Right after I retained him, he told me he had an emergency and would be out of town for a few days, so he had me go down to the courts and request a continuance. But the courts told me I had to contact my previous attorney and have him request a motion of continuance, which I did. A month went by, and I didn’t hear anything from him. I thought he was working on my case. Then, I got an email from my previous attorney informing me I had a court date coming up! So, I tried contacting the attorney I retained, and nothing. Since then, I had to hire another attorney, which was more money and stress. I contacted the attorney demanding my retainer back. Then, he tried putting the blame on me, saying it was my fault. Come to find out, my current attorney told me he never even filed to enter in my case.
