Hi, I am a victim of a felony. Obviously, I will not go into details, but a few months before I turned 16 I was the victim of a sexual crime perpetrated by an adult. It has been about a year and a half now. Court was persistently getting delayed for so long that I've not prepared very much... I always expected it to get pushed back. The sentencing hearing is next week, November 9th. I have had my victim impact statement written, it is submitted to the court, everything technically is in order, but I have a few things I'm unsure about...
How do I dress (I am a female if that matters at all for that)? Should I use some sort of temporary dye to make my hair not so colorful (it's currently a bright red at my bangs, and dark brown/black everywhere else)? Should I print out the victim impact statement or would they provide a copy for me? What would happen if I start crying? Would I be told to go to the other room or something?
Just generally, how do I prepare myself and what do I expect? I don't mean emotionally, I mean in a more literal way. Thank you for any advice. My attorney was chosen by the state and I've talked to her once at a subponea sometime in the summer so I haven't really been able to get advice from her.
My location: Indiana, USA
