Forced-Unpaid Leave of Absence from Work due to pregnancy

Location: Colorado

My wife works for a very large food distrubution company as a truck driver (local work, non-CDL, nothing crazy). While actively and openly trying for a child, she was told to let the company know as soon as she knows if/when she is pregnant. She did so less than one month into her pregnancy, they made her go to her doctor to get a list of restrictions, in which her doctor told her she had no restrictions at this point in time. The doctor sent required documentation to her company's third party consulting/insurance firm. She was put on a leave of absence for 2 weeks while her company and the insurance firm weighed their options. After the 2 weeks were up, she received a letter from said firm, explaining that she will not be paid for the previous 2 weeks, and that she will be put on a forced-unpaid leave of absence for 1 year from the start of the initial 2 weeks. Her Union looked into this for her, but this seems to be uncharted territory for both her union and company (not very many females work in her position, none of whom have ever been pregnant while employed). There was a ton more back and forth than this, but this is the jist of it.

They ended up letting her back for about a month to help train late in her pregnancy (she was their full-time trainer), and she was not off the entirety of the full year they originally requested BUT we were still put in a kind of a rut financially losing out on 9 months of income and are not sure if there is anything here to pursue.
