Two days ago, I was falsely accused of filming a child in the locker room at my YMCA in PA. A staffer and this man came up to me just before I was going to leave, and the staffer told me that his child claims I was filming them in the locker room. She told me to open my photos on my phone. At first I hesitated and almost refused to, but I had nothing to hide. So I let her have my phone, and I even opened the deleted folder, and of course she saw nothing. The dad then gets up into my face and says “I know you fucking filmed my kid, tell me why I shouldn’t beat your ass up,” but the staffer tells him not too. The kid is next to him, and the dad says “that’s how the phone looked like, right?” “Right.” Staffer tells me not to leave, and calls the police. I call my dad to come over because I have extreme anxiety around authoritative people like cops, teachers and such. Police get there, interview the dad first, and then comes up to me and dad. At first it’s extremely hard for me to talk because of anxiety, Autism and a poor experience I had with the police when I was young, but the officer was really nice and her and my dad calmed me down. She takes the report, and says that an investigator will be calling me soon.
It has been over a day, and I haven’t received a call yet. My dad doesn’t think it’s that big of a deal, but I am absolutely terrified. I have never been to court. But also, I am wondering, since the officer didn’t search my phone herself, was she correct that the investigator will be calling me, or will the police come to my home and search my phone? I’m sitting here in the middle of the night absolutely terrified out of my mind that they will show up randomly. I have seen all these articles of them doing it early in the morning and holding the person at gun point. Can someone please tell me if I’m overreacting or not? I will give them all of my electronics if I have to prove that I didn’t film anyone, but I just don’t want it to happen unsuspectingly.
I feel violated, unsafe and honestly disgusted that someone would make such a serious claim for such a serious issue without no real evidence.
