I work in retail, and lately upper management has been hounding us about getting more reward sign ups. We ask, we offer, most decline. And for the most part that was fine, at least we were trying. But in the latest video meeting we had with our DM, he said "In order to make a print order, we already get all of the required information to sign them up for a rewards account. There is no reason why you cant just sign them up with that. No excuses."
In print, to place an order, we require a first and last name, phone number, and email. The same info required to sign up. How me and my other coworkers interpreted his words was that he basically wants us to take their info that they give for their print order, and just sign them up with that. That feels like fraud cus they didnt consent to signing up, just for placing an order. I dont want to do that, that feels... very wrong and sketchy, but I dont want to call him out on it cus he's the DM and I kind of like being able to pay my bills. So is this fraud or illegal in any way?
