Just started renting a house with my girlfriend, the previous tenants screwed us over pretty bad. Basically, when they first moved in, they took the fridge that came with the house and threw it out in the garage, bought their own, and now it’s got mold all on the inside and doesn’t turn on. The lights come on but it won’t cool. Then when we took over their lease they took the fridge that they bought with them so we’re left with a broken moldy fridge that doesn’t work. I emailed the landlord and they said they are not responsible for replacing it because the previous tenants purposely neglected it. I’m going to read over the lease again, but regardless if that’s what the lease says or not, if it’s illegal that would void the whole thing, right?
