Hey everyone. Weird situation here. Someone got ahold of our credit card information, placed an order for a standing desk/exercise bike for under the desk combo and had it delivered to our house. It was placed on shop.com, and was bought through a company we have 0 history with. The total ended up being a little over $2000.
We talked to the credit card company, told them what happened, and they deemed it a fraudulent purchase and refunded our money. Next we contacted the company and let them know what was happening, that it was an item we never purchased ourselves, and that we wanted to get the equipment back to them. They responded that their policy is there is a delivery fee and restocking fee for any returned merchandise (that end up being about $750). We went back and forth for probably 2 1/2 weeks trying to re-explain the situation and they refused to budge on the return fees. Even asked for a number to call so we didn't have to email back and forth every other day (which was ignored).
Finally last week they said they would send someone out to pick it up, and that it would be at no expense to us. Then Friday came and they changed their mind, wouldn't be picking them up anymore, but if we wanted to drop the stuff off at a FedEx store they would provide a return shipping label. These boxes are huge and really heavy and we have no way of moving them ourselves, even if we wanted to. I responded that there's no way that's happening.
What are our options here? It's been almost a month since they were delivered, and we reached out to them the day they showed up and started the conversation. They are 3 huge boxes taking up a ton of room, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of urgency on their end to get the stuff back, even though we were refunded the money pretty much immediately. Is there a timeline they have to get the stuff back? It seems crazy to be able to just store their stuff in our house indefinitely. Does it just become ours at some point?
