I am an independent contractor and I was doing a grocery delivery for a customer.
Once I arrived at the house; there were three people outside, with two dogs barking. I deal with dogs on a daily basis and 9/10 times the dog is usually just a big mouth. I announced out my window, “I have your grocery order for you” as they looked confused of what I was doing there. That’s when I got out of the car, and was immediately charged by their big German Shepard and bit me in the thigh. It ripped my sweat pants, and caused about an inch long cut/bruise which is now swelled up. No bleeding, just red.
The customer began to yell at me screaming “why would you get out of the car”. I tried explaining I was trying to deliver their groceries and I announced that I had their order. Maybe I did underestimate the dog, being that I grew up with dogs so I never was afraid of them. I’ve never been bit before this.
They began getting very hostile/irate with me. I told them I was leaving to contact the police and they told me “you cant leave! If you’re calling the police you need to stay here”
I told them this conversation is getting no where and that I’m not hanging around to debate with them until the police arrive.
As I was leaving, the customer yelled to get my plate number, and went behind me and took a picture. I then pulled up the road maybe about 1000 feet and called 911.
Fast forward, the state police and EMS showed up and spoke with me before even speaking to my customer. I told them what happened and wrote a statement. EMS took me in their vehicle, documented everything, took my vitals and recommended I go to the hospital to make sure the dog doesn’t have anything. They asked if I’d like a ride or if I can drive there, I drove myself as I felt capable.
Now I am sitting in the hospital. They said they were trying to contact the police to find out if the dog was up to date on its shots. They just came back in the room and told me the dog is indeed up to date.

I guess I am just trying to ask what are my next steps?
