Hi everyone,
I am 25f ready to move out of my parents house (again). I found an apartment for a killer deal, and after I signed the least they changed the lease term from 12 months to 5.
I have it on paper, and there was no document notifying me of it only being available for short term lease. Nowhere in the lease does it say that the have the right to unilaterally alter the lease The ad said:
“Lease cannot go longer than July 31 2026”
But then right above that statement, it stated that it was for 12 months. Right after I confronted them about it, they proceeded to gaslight me. Then they offered me “apartments for lease for 12 months” which were outrageously priced.
I feel like I was mislead and taken advantage of. I spent time and money on this. I wanted a place where I could make a home, not move out in 5 months. Quite frankly, I’m pissed.
I just want to know if I have grounds to take legal action to get my money back.
