A few years ago I began getting mail to my residence addressed to a company I had never heard of. I did not open and marked it return to sender; not at this address. I kept receiving mail.
Eventually this company was sent a letter from a California lawyer. I googled this lawyer and called him up to find out what was going on. Turns out, someone used my home address as their business address, signed up through a third party broker to transport a truckload of something, and never delivered it. The lawyer was suing this fake company and the broker.
The lawyer has asked to depose me to establish my address, how long I’ve lived there, and that I’ve never heard of the fake company and its owner. I’m leaning towards doing so as it seems like the right thing to do but would love an opinion.
